Vesper Guardian:
Asset Protection Solution
Mitigation
Guardian:Protect provides a world leading innovative solution that ensures you have the best asset protection solution possible in place by providing exceptional risk mitigation. Along with the ability to electronically mark key assets and zones the key tenant of Guardian Asset Protection is our unique capability to provide automated, proactive incident prevention.
Guardian:Protect does this by :
- Visualizing your assets on vessel navigation systems
- Automatically Detecting risky vessel behavior
- Alerting the asset owner for appropriate intervention
- Immediately and automatically alerting the vessel for appropriate preventative action
Why does proactive incident prevention matter?
The loss and damage of cable assets due to incidents is a constant risk in the marine environment. Without an effective risk mitigation solution in place it’s not a question of if, but rather of when, an incident will occur. No one is immune, incidents can occur anywhere.
ICPC (International Cable Protection Committee) research shows it will take a minimum of twelve (12) days to affect a repair if the repair is simple and immediately locatable. That is best case and assumes the cable repair vessel is currently idle and at the nearest base.

Key Benefits
There are numerous benefits associated with providing proactive incident prevention to mitigate the risk of anchor strikes to the cable segment. The Guardian Asset Protection Solution will deliver additional value by:
- Avoid expensive repairs
- Ensure business continuity
- Create a clear record of activity and therefore liability
- Avoid penalty fees and fines
- Avoiding very expensive cable repairs
- Ensuring business continuity
- Creating a clear record of activity and therefore liability
Case Study:
Straits of Mackinac, Michigan
Maintaining assets in a marine environment is a high-risk endeavor which again recently proved true in the State of Michigan, who unfortunately also had a significant incident:
This incident lead to the commissioning of a comprehensive piece of research into mitigating anchor strikes (the largest risk to sub-sea assets, ref ICPC – International Cable Protection Committee).
This research determined that Guardian:Protect via its unique capability to provide automated, proactive incident prevention will reduce the risk of key incidents by 88.4% (pictured above).
How much risk are you taking? With incident costs typically measuring in the millions of dollars, even with the most conservative estimates an investment in Guardian makes financial sense. A small investment in prevention is far better than any cure!
Case Study:
New York Power Authority
The New York Power Authority is the largest power utilities company in the United States. The New York Power Authority suffered an anchor strike to its subsea transmission cable which not only caused significant damage to the cable, but also resulted in significant environment damage.
To quote the New York Power Authority (NYPA) “The costs associated with the clean-up of the leaked fluid and the repair of the cable are substantial” – in fact they totaled more than US$30 million. Not only did the repairs cost in excess of US$30 million, but the cables were out for service for six months due to the difficulty in operating in the cold waters.
The introduction and deployment of Guardian:Protect technology has delivered an incident free future for these vital assets and prompted their President and CEO to note that:
“An investment in Guardian is an investment in a safer more productive future.”
